4. Day-By-Day And Week-By-Week Operations

Younger

(1) Arrival (Day 1–2)

Preheat the house to brooding temperature. Place day-old chicks into the first tier only of the battery cage system for broilers. 

Provide small feed buckets and small water buckets at chick eye level so they can see feed and water immediately. 

This helps crops fill and reduces early mortality. Broiler manuals recommend ensuring the majority of chicks have feed/water in the first 24–48 hours.

(2) Days 3–14 — Transition To Lines

Use height-adjustable water piping and slowly raise the water line (nipple/drinker) as chicks grow. 

Keep the small buckets for ~2 weeks (your plan), and remove them once chicks readily use pipe/drinker and feeders. 

Water systems should be set so chicks drink with feet flat and neck comfortable — good nipple placement increases early water uptake.

(3) Around Day 10 — Beak Trimming

You specified using a beak-cutting machine around day 10. Industry practice varies (some do hatchery infrared at day-old; many farms perform trimming within the first 0–10 days). 

If trimming, use trained staff and approved equipment to reduce welfare risks. Monitor feed intake after the operation.

(4) Weeks 3–6 — Spreading Birds To Higher Tiers

Shift birds into the 2nd and 3rd tiers of the battery cage system for broilers gradually as body size permits. 

You noted each brood nest is 24 birds initially — expand carefully and avoid overcrowding at feeders and drinkers. 

Remove the temporary plastic flat net (the chick floor) around week 6 for cleaning, then store for reuse. This protects chicks early and simplifies cleaning between flocks.

Larger inward doors make catching easier: close adjacent compartments, open the target door, guide birds calmly to the handler and into transport crates — use non-slip flooring and trained staff for safe, low-stress catching.
